Then and now

The eventful history of the “Central”

Founded by Josef and Juliane Schanderl, later known as Cafe Spitzer, then Cafe Français, and the “Zentral” since the First World War: few houses tell as much of Baden’s coffee house history.

Since 2015 the Kreiker family has run Cafe Central – and brought back the traditional coffee house culture that had almost been lost. “Europe as a guest in our extended living room.”

Enjoy your stay

Make yourself at home

Our guests and their wishes come first. A coffee house should not only be a popular meeting place but an institution – and make a visit a sensual experience once again.

Whether it’s breakfast with the newspaper, a Melange in the afternoon or a glass of wine in the evening: our waiters in tailcoats take care of it. And of course there’s free Wi-Fi.

“The best way to spend life pleasantly is to drink good coffee. And when you can’t have any, try to be as cheerful and serene as if you had drunk good coffee.”

On the main square of the spa town

Baden nestles up to the metropolis of Vienna – just 25 km away and yet pleasantly far from the bustle, on the eastern edge of the Alps, in the middle of the Thermenregion wine and spa region. Cafe Central sits right on the main square, in the heart of the old town.
