On Baden’s main square since 1841
A few dates we're already looking forward to.
From Tuesday you can enjoy our winter specialities again – including a few new dishes.
As always, a memorable evening with great live music and a cosy atmosphere.
A satirical show full of readings, songs and sketches – with a generous dose of humour.
A good cup of coffee, a comforting hot chocolate when it’s freezing outside, or a summery Aperol Spritz after work – we have something for every mood and every kind of weather.
Our coffee should taste of Sicilian soil – aromatic and spicy, yet mild in the finish, as genuine as the land and the people down there in the south.

Our kitchen spoils you with dishes of the finest quality – coffee house culture for breakfast, at lunchtime and after work. From savoury to sweet. Bon appétit!
Food →Breakfast the way it should be in a Viennese coffee house, savoury classics from the sausage platter to beef goulash – and pastries that are impossible to resist.

Founded by Josef and Juliane Schanderl, later known as Cafe Spitzer, then Cafe Français, and the “Zentral” since the First World War: few houses tell as much of Baden’s coffee house history.
Since 2015 the Kreiker family has run Cafe Central – and brought back the traditional coffee house culture that had almost been lost. “Europe as a guest in our extended living room.”
Our history
Our guests and their wishes come first. A coffee house should not only be a popular meeting place but an institution – and make a visit a sensual experience once again.
Whether it’s breakfast with the newspaper, a Melange in the afternoon or a glass of wine in the evening: our waiters in tailcoats take care of it. And of course there’s free Wi-Fi.

“The best way to spend life pleasantly is to drink good coffee. And when you can’t have any, try to be as cheerful and serene as if you had drunk good coffee.”after Jonathan Swift
Baden nestles up to the metropolis of Vienna – just 25 km away and yet pleasantly far from the bustle, on the eastern edge of the Alps, in the middle of the Thermenregion wine and spa region. Cafe Central sits right on the main square, in the heart of the old town.
With Mario Kreiker (owner), Anton Morbitzer, Robert Rumpler and Georg Potztawe (head waiter). Hosted by Saskia Sailer.
A film by Andreas Foramitti (direction, camera & editing), Felix Ruppert (sound & assistance).
Music: Beethoven – String Quartet No. 12 in E-flat major, Op. 127. PR for the Great Spas of Europe, Tourism Baden.
